This Season’s
Trends - What to wear
Autumn/Winter
2008 Trends
For Autumn/Winter there is something for everyone-
from bad girl and dark romance to minimalism and power dressing-
luxurious fabrics and rich embellishments. There are killer
heels and pretty, fashionable flats with a move away from
the It bags to the season of the shoe. Structured shapes are
key, with contrast floaty boho pieces and strong vibrant prints.
This is a season of moody elegance, a gothic palette and chic
tailoring.
Stucture
Laser cut precision, angular corners and folds,
give a very structured grown- up look. Keep the lower half
simple. This look incorporates trouser suits, day dresses
and funnel-neck coats. The focus is on the neckline and long
lean legs. A simple tunic, no longer than mid thigh looks
great worn over either flared or tailored skinny trousers.
New Lace
This season lace pieces are layered up to create
impact. Black lace creates a gothic look with glamour- very
ladylike. Again no accessories needed. Lace tights will update
an outfit.
Checks
Mix and match multiple checks. Plaids, shot through
with orange, turquoise, emerald and violet give this trend
a young look. Fabrics also include tweed, flannel, and dogtooth-
a Country look. Dresses, skirts, trousers, shirts, jackets,
coats and even tights will be found in this look.
Back to
Black
The little black dress is either strapless and mini
or one shouldered and knee length. Wear with a big and bold
statement necklace or diamonds. The stiletto returns. Black
skinny trousers as well as leather or pvc leggings also feature.
Black is definitely back.
Folk
Patchwork and crochet pieces have homespun charm.
Thick knits, gilets, paisley prints are all part of the modern
folk mix. Accessorise with fringed leather or suede handbag
or boots.
Statetement
Coats
There is a coat for everyone. Decorative, embellished
coats, military with gold buttons, fur, checks, structured
necklines that are simple and unfussy as well as the cocoon
shape, trench and pea coat. You will be spoilt for choice.
Tomato
Red
The white shirt will be replaced with a ruffled red
blouse this season. Wear tomato red with black. A colour for
both day and night.
Punk rocks
Goth, grunge and punk come through this season- the
bad girl is back. Shredded cobwebs of knitwear, slashed dresses
of deep red worn with a pair of shredded or lacy tights. Oversized
sequins and luxe fabrics makes this a grown-up look.
Accessories
Jewellery comes super-sized. Wear a statement necklace,
big and bold. Wear brightly coloured opaque tights, lacy or
tartan. This is the season of the shoe with knee high boots,
ankle boots, brogues, killer heels and fancy flats to choose
from. Bags are either baby sized or courier satchels- colour
match your bag with your outfit. Wear the strap long and rest
the bag on your hip.
