This Season’s Trends - What to wear

Spring/Summer 2010 Trends

From laid back neutrals and utility wear to feminine florals and denim pieces. A season of frothy ruffles, flounces, frills, pastels, lots of lace and all out girly prettiness. In contrast, there are the military or utility styles that are both hardwearing and chic. Romantic vs. sporty, utility meets lace, meets lycra, meets silk, a season of many contrasts. Sculptural corsetry, raw edges and underwear as outerwear - a season of extremes.

Out on safari
This falls into two looks - utilitarian safari styles in khaki, stone and camel and then big tribal batiks and cat prints. Animal prints to safari suiting. Classic chic or wild.

Pretty in Pastels
Ice cream shades in floaty fabrics gives a girly look. Pastel shades and sweet shop pastels- baby blue, marshmallow pink, pale yellow, pale lilac and spearmint. A very soft and delicate palette. Pretty ginghams return, keep it pale and interesting.

Short story
Shorts are a big story this season, the tinier the better. Styles range from frayed denim to cycling shorts to high waist florals . Dress down by teaming with a slouchy tee, blazer and brogues or dress them up with a lace top and heels.

Denim
Wear double denim - head to toe denim is huge this season- team a denim shirt with jeans or a denim bustier with denim shorts, or double up with a western chambray shirt and jeans. Dungarees, jackets, dresses, shorts, knee length skirts can all be found in denim.

Go Nude
From earthy nudes to pale pinks, flesh, taupe, ecru, oatmeal, biscuit, sand….non colours are the new colours. Go for subtle romantic shades, blush colours and delicate detailing. Wear with a crisp white. If you do not have a golden complexion keep nude tones to your bottom half.

Prints
Eye popping patterns. A riotous kaleidoscope of colours and print- Tribal, ikat, madras, animal, checks, florals, stripes and digitally manipulated abstract prints- mix them up, don‘t be afraid to clash them.

Military
Distressed and destroyed army surplus. Reconsider the combat pant ( remember those), army shirt , utility jacket and olive shirtdresses. Layer khakis and neutrals and wear with lace up boots. Think urban camouflage.

Sports Chic
Sports inspired looks are big this season. Track pants and jogging bottoms are worn outside of the gym. Lycra mini dresses, hi-tech fabrics, neoprene tops, athletic vests, clever cut-outs and go-faster piping are all sportswear inspired.

Floral
Whether ditsy or bold, team floral with chic utility pieces. Wear clashing floral separates or choose a pretty slip dress.

All White
Head to toe white - pure and chic. The white shirt is big news this season and comes with frills, flounces, tiered and buttoned up,from flamboyant to stiff and starched. Prairie styles, shifts, slips and the white blazer returns.
